Barry Sheene lands on the island

MotoGP, 18.10.02

Barry Sheene landed his helicopter on Phillip Island on Thursday evening and was greeted by old friends and rivals in an emotional return to the Grand Prix fold. The former 500cc World Champion, who revealed that he is suffering from cancer back in August, was in great spirits as he renewed acquaintances and looked forward to a weekend of racing action at the SKYY VODKA Australian Grand Prix.

`I am feeling fine apart from this pain in the ass cancer!´ laughed the British racing legend. `There´s nothing to add to that really – I´m just doing my best to get over it. I went out the other night with Angel Nieto and Valentino Rossi and we had a good laugh so I thought I´d come down here to the island and greet them.
